Not everyone has the opportunity to go snorkeling or diving to draw at any time of year. It might also be your first time snorkeling—or the first time you’ve tried both snorkeling and drawing. As a calm alternative, you could look for a pond or swimming pool where you can try this activity. In the video below, I show myself drawing in a private pond. There is no aquatic life in this pond, so I brought my own object: an aquarium accessory heavy enough to stand upright. Of course, having access to a private pond or pool is a luxury, but you can do this in a public pool just as well. Just be sure to explain what you’re doing to the lifeguard beforehand.
The drawing itself isn’t clearly visible, but if you know my website and have read my book, you’ll know that isn’t the point. It’s not about learning to draw. But learning to observe and wonder. So this video is simply meant to show how you can practice or play around with underwater drawing in a safe environment.
