Why this vlog when I have previously indicated that nature journaling is not about drawing?
The reason why I pay attention to drawing here has everything to do with the mobility under water. Not only of the medium water itself, but also of the underwater life. For this it is nice if you can quickly sketch something.
You can approach drawing this mobile world in different ways:
1) Name out loud as much as possible what you see. Then start by drawing the line of movement. This is also called the line of action. Then you make a rougher sketch. Gesture drawing. As far as I know, there is no decent Dutch translation for this word. From there, hope that the fish comes back so that you can draw it in more detail. At least if you want to draw details.
2) Photograph and/or film your object as quickly as possible. Watch the film footage again at home. Say out loud what you see again and draw it. Do this several times for the same animal. This will train you for the shape and details. This is also called muscle memory. Underwater you will be able to draw faster and faster. But also to recognize and therefore see behaviors that raise questions for you.
3) Put on a random film or series with images of underwater life. The Dutch website https://visdeurbel.nl/ can also help you with this.
4) Below is a film in which the well-known nature journalist Mattias Lanas shows how he practices this.
